The kitchen and dining room began as dark, closed-off spaces with heavy cabinetry and low light – rooms that didn’t reflect how the home was used day-to-day. The goal was to open up the layout, create better flow between the two spaces, and bring in the brightness and ease the original plan was missing. By rethinking the footprint and removing what made the rooms feel weighed down, we were able to create a foundation that supported more function, more personality, and a layout that finally made sense for the home.
Our client dreamed of a kitchen that felt open, full of light, and as fun and colorful as her personality. Introducing a pink backsplash became the color moment she’d always imagined, paired with light cabinetry to keep everything airy and bright.
In the dining room, she pictured a cozier, more grounded backdrop: wallpaper with warmth, mid-century lighting, and a mood that complemented the kitchen without competing with it. Opening the two rooms to each other let the palettes connect, while the kitchen’s patterned flooring, brass details, and playful mix of textures carried her love of color and cheer throughout the space.
