Spanish Colonial Revival was a full-gut renovation of an architecturally rich home in Highland Park. The house had incredible bones with arched openings, textured plaster, and historic details, but years of wear and an outdated layout made it hard to live day-to-day. We reworked key areas of the floor plan to better support modern life, including combining two small upstairs bedrooms to create a true primary suite and finishing the basement to add valuable living space. Throughout the home, we preserved (and, in many cases, re-celebrated) the charm that made this house so special from the start. The result is a renewed space that feels grounded in its history, thoughtfully updated, and ready for the next chapter.
The vision was to honor everything that made this home unforgettable – its arches, its texture, its inherently soulful architecture – while giving the layout and finishes the comfort and ease of modern living. Rather than change the home’s identity, we leaned into it: repeating arches where they were missing, restoring original plaster details, and choosing materials that feel timeless. We wanted every update to feel like it had always belonged here.
