Our Sunny Lands project is a midcentury kitchen and mudroom renovation in a 1957 South Minneapolis home. A previous remodel had stripped away much of the home’s original character, leaving the spaces feeling flat and disconnected. The goal was to bring that sense of warmth and personality back while improving how the spaces function day to day.
We reworked the kitchen to create better flow, more usable workspace, and a stronger connection to the rest of the main level, while the mudroom was redesigned to support daily routines with more intentional storage and organization.
From the beginning, we wanted the kitchen to feel like it belonged to the home again, while still bringing in personality. The client was drawn to orange, and that became a starting point for the space.
We opened up the layout to connect the kitchen to the living area, allowing it to feel more open and part of everyday life. A new window was added to bring in more light and soften the space.
The material palette was kept intentional. The custom orange hood and dark tile backsplash create contrast and energy, while walnut cabinetry and surrounding finishes ground the space and keep it feeling warm and balanced.
In the mudroom, the focus shifted to function. The layout was reworked to better support everyday routines, with built-in storage, a bench, and durable materials that make the space easy to use while still feeling connected to the rest of the home.
