The original home didn’t include a basement bathroom, but adding one was essential for how families live today. This new 3/4 bath was designed alongside a family room and additional basement bonus guest room (or office!) to be a space guests and family members could use comfortably. Adding a bathroom in the basement makes the whole home more livable, and we wanted it to feel like a natural extension of the house rather than an afterthought.
The vision for this basement bathroom was to create something that felt intentional and full of personality – not just a basic add-on. We brought in large Mercury Mosaics hexagon tiles as a nod to the antique floral hex patterns found throughout older Twin Cities homes. We went with a blue-and-white palette to tie the room back to the rest of the house, and added an arched shower door that gives the space a soft architectural moment.
