When we saw the original kitchen in this St. Paul home, we knew the size and layout wouldn’t work for how people live today – and the design didn’t match the character and beauty found in the rest of the original details of the house. Adding an addition allowed us the freedom to create a larger, more functional kitchen that could be the true heart of the home. And filling it with stunning details like countertop-to-ceiling marble subway tile, a plastered hood, and brass accents brought simple, lasting character to the room.
The vision for this kitchen was to make the new space feel like it had always been part of the house while being able to support modern functionality. We knew we wanted to match the cabinetry to the home’s original trim so the kitchen would feel like it had always belonged, and paired it with a soft palette of whites to set the foundation for a timeless look. Artisan-made lighting was chosen to add character, texture, and a sense of craftsmanship. All of this was fitted around a layout designed for both big gatherings and everyday cooking, with plenty of counter space, storage, and room to move comfortably as a family.
