Old homes rarely offer a mudroom, an office spot, or a main-level powder room, so combining all three into one flexible space felt like the right way to give our Wellesley remodel what it was missing without overwhelming the floor plan. Positioned just off the kitchen with its own door to the deck, these spaces were created as part of the new addition and designed based on how modern families actually live in their day-to-day lives.
When designing this space, we let the color story of the rest of the home shape the mood. We carried the same wallpaper from the dining room into the spaces to connect the addition to the original home, and installed hexagon floral tile in a taupe, black, and white palette to tie into the home’s colors. Light blue built-in cabinetry complemented the wallpaper, while offering a stunning contrast to the calm, neutral kitchen just on the other side of a large archway. The overall idea for the space was to blend functionality and storage with details that match the original parts of the home.
