One of the reasons we knew we wanted to add an addition to this 1920s St. Paul home remodel was to give the house a true old-home dream: a large primary suite that could fit in any modern design. We knew the goal was to balance modern function with old-home character so the suite would feel like it’s always belonged to the house. The result is a bedroom & bathroom that feels new in function but fully connected to the home’s character.
The primary suite lived within the new second-level addition, and we wanted it to feel seamlessly connected to the character of the original house. The new layout – two walk-in closets, a bedroom with backyard views, and space for a true primary bath – finally gave the house the kind of suite it had always deserved.
For the bathroom, the goal was to blend modern comfort with old-home character. The walk-in shower brought in the function a primary suite needs, and we sourced a cast-iron tub from an architectural salvage store to fit a 1920s Tudor. Marble basket-weave floors, subway tile with cove base, and a classic chair rail kept the space anchored in timeless materials.
