The bathroom started as a large, unfinished laundry room with awkward soffits, old utility hookups, and a layout that didn’t function well. Our client wanted a true full bath in the basement complete with a walk-in shower, a soaking tub, real storage, and finishes that didn’t feel “basement-level.” We completely reworked the layout and moved plumbing, but the compromise was that the laundry chute couldn’t be relocated because of how the main level was laid out – so we designed a custom built-in to hide it completely and make it feel intentional in the new bathroom.
This family didn’t have a large bathroom on their second level, so creating one in the basement was their chance to build a stunning, timeless space as a little “treat yourself” moment. Bold black tile created an extra-special walk-in shower, a soaking tub, and brass finishes allowed us to design a space that didn’t have to feel like a compromise just because it was in the basement. Paneling and warm wood tones helped let it feel elevated but still deeply livable.
