One of the biggest goals for the basement was to finally create a space where their teenagers could bring friends over, hang out, and feel at home. The old basement was cold, had no natural light and no real gathering area. We kept the same layout the same but added a large egress window to brighten the room, and built out a comfortable living space centered around an electric fireplace. Next to it, we created a bar area stocked for snacks and drinks – the perfect setup for movie nights, sleepovers, and weekend hangouts.
Their vision for the living space was grounded in warmth, light, and a clean, modern-organic feel. They imagined a palette of creamy whites and warm taupes, layered with wainscoting for quiet texture and a plaster-wrapped fireplace as the room’s anchor. The retro blue fridge added a playful pop of color in the bar area, balanced by brass hardware, light flooring, and a cozy sectional that made the room feel welcoming from the moment you walked in. Every design choice was made to create a space that felt bright, relaxed, and full of subtle character—inviting on its own, but still durable and comfortable for everyday teenage hangouts.
