The original mudroom was defined by a cramped closet that didn’t offer the storage a busy Minnesota household needs. Boots, coats, and daily essentials had no true home, and the layout wasn’t making use of the available square footage. The space functioned more like a hallway than a room with a purpose.
Our goal was to reshape the footprint so the mudroom could finally operate as a real drop zone – organized, durable, and able to handle the rhythm of everyday life without clutter or chaos.
Our clients wanted a hardworking mudroom that still felt warm and considered – utility wrapped in a design that felt connected to the rest of the home. We color-drenched the room in Sherwin-Williams River Rouge, creating a rich, earthy backdrop that brings depth and personality into a small space.
The former closet was removed and replaced with a mix of open and closed storage: a bench with deep drawers for shoes and bags, upper cubbies for baskets, and a proper closet for hanging coats and seasonal gear. Brass hooks, warm wood tones, and the vertical paneling added texture and intention, turning a once-overlooked corner into a space that feels both functional and beautifully grounded.
