Our Rock Garden project began with a midcentury modern home in St. Louis Park that had great character but didn’t fully support the way this family lived. The kitchen was closed off, the mudroom lacked real storage, and the basement held a lot of unfinished potential. It was time to rework the flow and give the house spaces that felt connected, functional, and truly usable day to day.
We opened the kitchen to the dining and living rooms by removing walls and adding a new structural beam, instantly making the main level feel brighter and more cohesive. A two-level addition created a sun-filled room above and a flexible bedroom/office below, giving the family the space they had always been missing. The mudroom was rebuilt to handle Minnesota boots, backpacks, and busy routines, and the basement bathroom was redesigned with a layout that finally made sense.
Every update was made to honor the home’s midcentury charm while giving the family more comfort, more light, and more room to enjoy the life they’ve built here.
